Websites age quietly. Nothing breaks overnight, but bookings slow down and the site starts working against the quality of your care.
Here are the seven signs we see most often, a quick way to decide between a refresh and a rebuild, and how to redesign without losing the Google rankings you already have.
The seven signs
It’s awkward on a phone
Text you have to zoom into, buttons too small to tap, menus that don’t open. Most patients will see your site on a phone first.
It’s slow
If it takes more than a few seconds to load on mobile data, many visitors leave before they see anything.
Patients can’t book online
If booking means calling during office hours, you’re losing the people who look for a clinic in the evening.
The information is out of date
Old hours, former practitioners, services you no longer offer, photos from years ago.
You don’t show up for your treatments on Google
If one Services page lists everything, Google has little to match specific searches to.
You can’t update it yourself
If every small change needs a developer or a forgotten login, the site will keep falling behind.
It doesn’t look like your clinic anymore
Your care has grown and your brand has matured, but the website still looks like day one.
Refresh or rebuild?
A refresh can work if the site is reasonably fast, works on phones and is easy to edit: update the content, photos, booking link and treatment pages. If it fails on speed, mobile or editing, a rebuild is usually quicker and cheaper than patching it piece by piece.
Quick wins while you decide
- Update your hours, team and services today.
- Add an online booking link to the top of every page.
- Replace stock photos with real ones from your clinic.
- Make sure your phone number is tappable on mobile.
Redesign without losing your Google rankings
A redesign is the moment many clinics accidentally lose traffic. Avoid it with a few precautions:
- List every page on your current site before you start.
- Keep the same web addresses where you can. Where they change, set up redirects from old addresses to new ones.
- Don’t delete pages that bring in visitors. Improve them instead.
- Update the website link on your Google Business Profile and directories if your domain changes.
- After launch, check Google Search Console for errors over the following weeks.
Make sure you own your domain and have admin access to everything before you start a redesign. Changing providers is much harder when someone else holds the keys.
Your care has grown. Your website should too.
