A low price is tempting when you’re busy running a clinic. But the cheapest website is often the most expensive one you’ll ever have.
Here’s where the hidden costs come from, how to protect yourself whatever you spend, and when a budget option is genuinely the right choice.
Where the hidden costs come from
Your time
Hours spent writing, choosing photos, fixing layouts and chasing support are hours not spent with patients.
Patients who never book
No online booking, a slow mobile site or no treatment pages quietly send patients to other clinics.
Paying twice
Many cheap sites get rebuilt within a year or two, so you pay for the website twice.
Lock-in
Some low-cost providers keep the domain or the site in their name. Leaving can mean starting over.
Protect yourself, whatever you spend
- Register your domain in your own name, with your own login.
- Make sure you have full admin access to the website.
- Keep your Google Business Profile, Analytics and Search Console in your own accounts, and add your designer as a user.
- Ask how backups are handled.
- Get a written list of exactly what’s included.
If a provider won’t give you admin access or domain ownership, treat it as a red flag, at any price.
When a budget option is fine
If you’re just starting out, a simple one-page site with your services, hours, location and a booking link, plus a complete Google Business Profile, can carry you for a while. Just make sure you own it, so you can build on it later instead of starting from scratch.
What “done right” looks like
- Clear, patient-friendly content written for you or with you.
- A page for each treatment, built to be found on Google.
- Booking on every page, and fast on phones.
- Everything owned by you, with access you control.
- Someone to call when you need a change.
Build it once. Build it right.
